Fine Arts
At Central Christian School, we recognize the importance of integrating art and music into the themed units of our curriculum.
Viewing art as a form of worship, art at CCS concerns itself with truth, goodness, and beauty in order to advance God's glory. Through art class, students are given a place to identify their talents and gifts through responding to God's world. From the framework of Creation-Fall-Redemption-Consummation, our young artists learn to discern the difference between art the way God intended contrasted with the effects of sin on modern expressions of creativity.
Students also learn to appreciate the creative talents of artists in many places, cultures, and time periods. From projects based on early children's literature to replicating masterpieces of Egyptian art and The Renaissance, students incorporate the key elements of art as they explore a variety of mediums. Building on the foundations laid in the early years, our older students go beyond traditional materials and explore fiber arts and pottery.
We also give our students the opportunity to explore their God-given musical talents beyond the classroom. Each December brings a school-wide Christmas program in which all students participate. Various genres are presented centering around God coming to earth in the flesh, bringing the hope of redemption. From Handel’s “Messiah”, to Gospel music, to hand bells and percussion instruments, our students lead their parents and relatives in a genuine worship service.
A Spring Musical is produced each year, giving 3rd through 6th graders the opportunity to participate in musical theater. Musical concepts learned throughout the year are reinforced during preparation for the show, including the skills of reading music, choral singing, vocal techniques, presentation skills, and team work. All students in these grades sing in the chorus while choreography and drama are added to complete the production. 5th and 6th grade students are given the opportunity to audition for speaking and solo selections. The musicals selected are age appropriate and Christ honoring. Discussions of Biblical principals are an integral part of the preparation and help students apply these principles to their lives.
