Curriculum Overview
Grades 3K-K
The 3K classroom provides an interactive environment rich in experiences and resources to aid children in their growth and development. The JK curriculum focuses on emerging literacy—the ability to read, write, speak, and listen. Children work as writers, mathematicians, and scientists as they explore a central theme and discover God’s truth in the world around them. Kindergarten increases the focus on discovering God’s world through math, reading, writing, and science while still providing play opportunities. Children learn actively through a center-based choice time.
Grades 1-3
The early grades employ a balanced literacy approach which includes shared, guided, modeled, and independent reading and writing instruction. Phonics and whole word study are embedded in literature and integrated with writing. Students explore and analyze truths in God’s World through integrated units, incorporating social studies, science, Bible, and literacy content. Mathematics includes numerations, geometry, measurement, probability, operations, and algebraic-readiness.
Grades 4 -6
In the upper grades, the curriculum continues to focus on literacy learning and increasingly works to prepare students for the rigors of secondary school. Students examine Biblical truths through integrated studies of history, science, Bible, literature, logic and writing, where they are encouraged to think critically and to draw independent conclusions in all the subjects. Different worldviews are explored and discussed. Mathematics includes long division, advanced fraction work, geometry, and pre-algebra.
