Science Lab CCS has an exceptionally strong science program. Grades 1-6 visit the science lab often. The lab is fully equipped with space designed for benchtop experiments and computers dedicated for science use. Science instruction with lab experiments and lab demonstrations is foundational in each classroom. ArtLed by veteran teacher Cathy Barnes, Art is the favorite class of many students. Each grade follows a curriculum designed to allow students to explore art techniques and theories through hands-on experiments with a wide variety of materials. In connection with each project, each class also has an age-appropriate study of art history, artists and their work. Music Provided weekly, for JK through sixth grade, students study music theory and appreciation through a variety of techniques. The music program also includes learning instruments and music reading. Younger children begin with percussion instruments in the classroom, and are introduced to bell chimes in Third Grade. Additional after-school instruction in instrumental music is available beginning in Fourth Grade. In addition to instruction in music fundamentals, students participate in school concerts and several musical chapel programs.Back to top SpanishSpanish is provided to students in JK through Sixth Grade. In Kindergarten through Sixth Grade, students meet twice a week with Spanish teacher Gina Meeks in the Spanish classroom. Kindergarten students also take Spanish from Senora Meeks two times a week, with an additional Spanish story time once a week in their classroom. Younger students concentrate on listening skills and simple Spanish subjects such as greetings, numbers, alphabet, colors, and family. Higher grades also emphasize reading and writing. Spanish class at CCS is very interactive, using a traditional curriculum enriched by our native Spanish speaking instructor. The Spanish program also seeks to expand the students cultural awareness through both classroom activities, special events and service opportunities. Computer Lab CCS focuses on integrating technology into the daily classroom curriculum using computers as an additional method of instruction for other subject areas. Students are encouraged to use the computer for research. The teacher acts as a guide to connect students to relevant resources and to help them think critically about the information they discover. The ultimate goal is for teachers and students alike to be comfortable with the use of technology and to use it naturally as a tool for learning and presentation. Our computer lab is equipped with several computers and a variety of other technology. The lab is available for classroom projects and individual use. Library Central Christian School has a full library and a librarian on staff. All grades use the library at least weekly. Younger students also have small individual libraries in their classrooms for use by the students in classroom activities and free time. CCS participates in local reading incentive programs and also enjoys visits from local storytellers and guest authors from around the country. Back to top |
